Heat strengthened glass is designed to give some of the
characteristics of toughened glass e.g. a proportion of the
increased strength ( approx 1.5 times stronger than annealed) and
thermal resistance ( approx . twice as resistant to thermal stress
and shock than annealed) while retaining the fracture
characteristics of annealed glass.
Heat strengthened glass should not be considered a safety glass in
its monolithic form but it can be laminated.
Independent Glass offer Heat Strengthened glass in its monolithic
form for building applications requiring resistance to thermal
stresses but can also supply laminated Heat Strengthened glass
which then combines the thermal stress resistance characteristics
with safety performance to the relevant BS EN 12600
classification.
