Independent Glass have provided a series of coloured laminated
glass panels for a striking architectural feature which has been
installed at South Cheshire College in Crewe.
The impressive design forms part of an entrance facade, which
incorporates a number of coloured fins made from an aluminium
framework and laminated glass containing Vanceva coloured
interlayers. The fins were produced by Gray & Dick Ltd,
specialists in glazed structures, who manufactured the Aluminium
framework and carried out the on site installation.
Five different Vanceva coloured interlayers were used to achieve
the overall effect. The interlayers were used in combination
to match the specified RAL colours for the project. IG
created samples of the coloured glass for colour matching and
approval by the architect prior to manufacturing the finished
product. Fraser Gray of Gray & Dick commented "One of the
benefits of working with Vanceva Interlayers is the flexibility
they can offer. Matching specific RAL colours is easily
achieveable due to the wide variety of interlayers to choose
from. The glass then provides aesthetic benefits as well as
the safety benefits of laminated glass".
The installation required a substantial amount of planning, with
the aluminium framework being assembled on site, the panels being
glazed whilst the fins were on the ground, prior to then craning
each fin into position and fixing it to the entrance
structure. Despite these challenges the project was delivered
on time and to the client's satisfaction, with a colourful
result!
